Welcome to ArchNewsVolume 8WWelcome to the eighth edition of ArchNews, Archetype Joint’s independent newsletter bringing you the latest in fastening and joining technology. If you have any comments or suggestions for a coming edition of ArchNews, please contact us at 248 377-1147 or at info@archetypejoint.com. Bolted Joint Application Seminar Under DevelopmentWe have been asked on a number of occasions if we could provide courses on bolted joint application. Initially we viewed this as conflicting with our focus on joint development and testing. However it has become apparent that development and manufacturing personnel need to be fully aware of joint performance drivers and the capabilities of specializing testing before they can consider our services. In fact we see that the greatest barrier to consistent excellence is not budget or schedule, but the widespread belief that the bolted joint is a pre-engineered off-the-shelf solution. Therefore, we have begun development of a one-day seminar with the following unique features:
This seminar will be offered starting in February 2010, both as a public course and on-site. Please contact Danielle Rowan at 248 377-1147 or drowan@archetypejoint.com for more information. Comparison TestsEach edition of ArchNews also announces the availability of the latest in our series of Comparison Tests. In each test our lab compares several products, or assembly techniques that compete to satisfy a particular fastening or joining need. PDF downloads are free to all Archetype Joint Members. Best of all, there is no cost for membership and signing up takes only minutes.
To Turn the Bolt or to Turn the Nut - That is the Question Go to Comparison Tests to see what we found. Welcome Danielle!
Archetype Joint in the NewsSince the last edition of ArchNews was released, we’ve had six technical articles published in leading trade magazines. Read about it In The News. Archetype Joint Enhances Test CapabilitiesTo provide our customers even more complete test services, we have recently invested in the FPD-8010E Pressure Mapping System from FujiFilm. The system scans, digitizes and analyzes exposed Prescale film so that pressure distribution across a joint can be understood quantitatively, eliminating the uncertainty of comparing color shades to a reference chart. We have tested the system by compressing known areas at known loads in our load frame and are satisfied that the system is a valuable tool in joint testing and trouble-shooting. As we understand that good turn-around is always in demand, we have also augmented our machining capacity by adding a small heat treating furnace and sandblaster. Now the custom tooling required for your job can be put to work days earlier than it could in the past. Tension-Indicating BoltsIf you are regular readers of ArchNews, you are probably aware we utilize ultrasonic pulse-echo technology for measurement of in-joint bolt tension. While a very powerful tool for joint development and validation, ultrasonics is not an ideal solution for all applications. Find out more in this article. Comparison of Calibration Techniques for Ultrasonic Tension MeasurementThe use of ultrasonic pulse-echo technology for measurement of bolt tension has compelling benefits that require a certain level of experience to be fully realized. We will compare the effectiveness of common calibration methods for use in both the elastic and plastic range of elongation. Find out about our test results in this article. We're always interested in your feedback, and learning about your joint design and testing challenges. I'd like to hear from you.
