Cost Estimation of Fastening and Joining Alternatives

For some time now we have working on a costing utility to help our clients and our Members choose from fastening and joining alternatives. This utility is intended as follow-on to our selection utility currently available. Based on basic joint requirements like permanence, relative motion and materials, the selection utility outputs potential processes that fit those requirements. The costing utility is meant to take a first cut at providing relative assembly and material costs for these fastening and joining alternatives. As developing useful cost estimators for even the most common processes in the selection utility is a significant task, we have struggled to free up the resources needed to implement the utility. So rather than have clients and Members wait until the project was complete before they could gain any benefit from it, we have decided to structure development into pieces that can be utilized individually before they are tied together. Expect the first installment with the next issue of ArchNews.
