Comparison Tests

On a regular basis we release a Comparison Test conducted independently in our test facility. In each test we compare and rate products that compete to satisfy a particular fastening or joining need. Following are descriptions of the two tests currently available.

Comparing Fastener Drive and Tip Styles

We find there is great disagreement as to the best drive style for small threaded fasteners. So we are going to put them all to the test by comparing the drive times for all the popular drive styles.

  • Cycle times for screws inserted into a driver bit from bulk and then driven are tabulated.
  • Engagement and drive times for hand-started screws are also tested.
  • Tests will be run with both free-running and prevailing torque joints
  • Results for more than one operator will be recorded.
  • A summary of head dimensions and the area of drive surfaces will be compiled.
  • Results are summarized both numerically and graphically.
  • A complete summary of test setup and test conditions, incorporating digital photographs, is included.

A preview consisting of excerpts from the published tests can always be found on the Comparison Tests page of archetypejoint.com.
